Zak Greant, the original Mysql hacker has done some serious thinking about business models for small hacker companies. This is definitively something that Nordaaker needs to deal with, if we are to grow beyond our current small numbers. I really like these thoughts compared to the thinking I’ve met in most traditional companies. They seem more suited to modern technology workers.
I have to say, I think this alternative flickr interface is just great. It gives focus to the photos, while providing exactly enough metadata (hint: click the picture to view large version). I’ve linked up my flickr stream here, to see your own, just change the username in the url.
The Frozen Perl conference is going on in Minneapolis this weekend. For those of us who missed it, I think these slides by Shawn M. Moore are worth checking out. A good introduction to Moose, and the best Method Modifier examples I’ve seen.
That’s it. I’m officially never going to fly with Ryan Air again, no matter the price difference.
Our friend Chris Messina was closer to the death of ma.gnolia than most of us, having worked for them as a consultant, as well as having a close relationship with the site owner. He writes with great insight about how this has affected him personally, as well as the lessons he sees for web 2.0.
The thing I don’t get about the whole deal is “Why were there no backups?”. I’ve yet to hear any explanations. However, they have been making some progress in scraping web caches and if you were affected by the ma.gnolia breakdown, there’s now a chance to recover your data.
Magnus Hagander gives a good explanation of how the Postgresql versioning scheme works.

In case you were wondering, Daniel and Michael were discussing this post from @gruber.
Andy Baio continues to find interesting uses of the technology that has become available to us lately. I was able to contribute by finding the Norwegian version :-)
Good article about Avatars. As we continue to build our internet personalities, branding gets more and more important. Wonder if I should add an avatar to the sidebar of this blog?
I tend to switch between a Self portrait I took while Photographing ABC Startsiden and my Manga me (From Face your manga). I feel that both of them work, as the manga one is quite recognizable), but I would love to get a good hand-drawn one, as I feel the manga ones are a bit generic.
Good remake of this classic.
